ABSTRACT
This monograph examines interpersonal customs in email communication between Japan and France, focusing on linguistic and cultural differences. It combines insights from anthropology, communication sciences, and pragmatics to analyze politeness as both a personal and social construct. Through six chapters, the book explores politeness theories, email genres, and ritualistic structures in openings and closings, highlighting cultural divergences such as expressions of gratitude and promises in professional contexts. This study provides a comparative framework for understanding the convergence and divergence of French and Japanese pragmatics in digital communication.
